SpineFind collects minimal data to provide our textbook price comparison service:

• ISBN numbers you search for
• Basic usage analytics (pages visited, features used)
• Browser extension: URLs of supported bookstore pages you visit

What we don't collect

We believe in minimal data collection. We never access or collect:

• Your browsing history
• Personal information (name, email, address)
• Payment information
• Passwords or login credentials
• Data from websites other than supported bookstores

How we use data

We use collected data to:

• Provide accurate textbook price comparisons
• Improve our service and user experience
• Cache price data to speed up future lookups

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services:

• Fathom Analytics — privacy-focused analytics (no cookies, GDPR compliant)
• Open Library API — for book metadata
• AbeBooks — for price data
• Amazon Associates — affiliate links (as an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases)

When you click affiliate links, those retailers may collect data according to their own privacy policies.

Browser extension

The SpineFind browser extension is designed with privacy in mind:

• No browsing history access — we don't request or use the browsing history permission
• Limited site access — only activates on supported bookstore websites (bkstr.com, bncollege.com)
• No background tracking — does not monitor or track your activity on other websites
• Local storage only — your settings are stored locally in your browser, not on our servers
• Fully optional — can be disabled or uninstalled at any time

Data retention

Price data is cached for up to 30 minutes. We do not maintain long-term records of individual searches.
